The Krone, different, livelier and fresher. The hosts are the British star chef James Baron and his Thai-Swiss wife Natacha. Local products and flavours from all over the world combine into an excellent Alpine cuisine that is high-class-casual. The historic building with its contemporary cosy ambience is now known as «Krone Säumerei am Inn». It has evolved into a lively meeting point – from «an insider’s tip» to «the place to be». It is important to us that the Krone remains a hotel that is renowned for its gourmet experience and warm hospitality.

FROM HONG KONG TO THE UPPER ENGADIN

The young hosts, Natacha and James Baron, have impressive experience and career records as well as a high level of creativity. Highly motivated professionals, they bring an international flair to the mountain village of La Punt. Despite being only 38 years old, James Baron has an impressive international CV. His record includes working with Andreas Caminada at Schloss Schauenstein. The landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong, where he was most recently employed as Chef de Cuisine, is ranked in the Top 50 best restaurants in the world. His wife Natacha is a trained tea sommelier amongst other things.

History

HOSTELRY SINCE 1565

The Hotel Krone’s 18 rooms are generous, modern, and cosy. The straight-line native wood Alpine interior and the furnishings bear the thumbprint of the famous Engadin architect Hans-Jörg Ruch. The original 16th-century Engadin farmhouse was a working farm and goods store. The large building was already serving as an inn long ago and also provided hostelry for traders and travellers.

Hints of the Krone La Punt’s bustling history can be found throughout the hotel in the form of reminders of the old trade route. In the newly designed fine-dining restaurant La Chavallera (Romansch for merchant), Alpine products are combined with the culinary treasures that the traders brought into the Engadin even in those days – from Paris, Venice, Munich, and the Côte d’Azur.

La Punt and the Inn-Hub

La Punt Chamues-ch is continuously evolving and investing in forward-looking infrastructure:
According to the plans of the renowned English architect and Engadin enthusiast Sir Norman Foster, the InnHub is being built next to the Krone – a retreat and source of inspiration for local, national, and international companies.

The InnHub deliberately sets a counterpoint to the classic seasonal rhythm of the Engadin: it is intended to enliven the village outside the peak seasons and offer an attractive year-round meeting place for work, innovation, and exchange. The offering is complemented by sports, health, and educational facilities, as well as sustainably designed, managed second homes that contribute to the responsible long-term development of tourism in La Punt – an exciting step forward that you can already experience up close today.

Construction work on this visionary project has already begun. Great care is being taken to ensure that the village develops in harmony and preserves its unique atmosphere. The resulting dynamic brings new life to La Punt Chamues-ch without losing the character of the place.

We are convinced that the emerging InnHub will enrich La Punt Chamues-ch, promote sustainable tourism, and make our region even more attractive beyond the traditional season.
